Meet the Coaches: Building Culture at De Pere High and Notre Dame Academy
High school football is about more than just what happens under the Friday night lights—it’s about creating a culture that shapes young athletes for life. At De Pere High School and Notre Dame Academy, two of the most respected programs in northeast Wisconsin, that culture starts with leadership from the top.
At De Pere, head coach Ben Strickland is entering his second season with a clear vision for the Redbirds. A former defensive back for the Wisconsin Badgers and a seasoned college coach, Strickland has brought a new level of discipline, intensity, and structure to the program. His coaching style blends high expectations with a player-first mentality. He’s focused on building a championship mindset through accountability, preparation, and daily improvement.
“Culture isn’t just what we say—it’s what we do every day,” Strickland shared during a summer workout. “It starts in the weight room, continues in the classroom, and shows up on the field.”
Just across town at Notre Dame Academy, Coach Mike Rader is taking a similar approach with a unique Triton twist. With deep ties to Wisconsin football, Rader emphasizes both personal growth and program pride. He’s building a team that reflects the school’s values—service, integrity, and relentless effort.
“Our players are more than athletes,” Rader said. “We’re developing future leaders, teammates, and members of the community. That’s the real win.”
Both programs are setting high standards, not just for football success, but for the kind of young men they send out into the world. Whether it’s through structured offseason training, leadership development, or service opportunities, the coaches at De Pere and NDA are building more than teams—they’re building legacy.
As the 2025 season approaches, fans can expect competitive football, but just as importantly, they’ll witness two programs where culture drives everything. Friday Football Tailgate can’t wait to travel to the Green Bay area August 29, when the Redbirds face the Tritons for what promises to be an incredible matchup.
